 Alternators
The alternators, contrarily to motors, are able to convert a mechanical into electrical energy. Their main characteristic is the energy used to make them rotate.
We may classify them in three categories: on-board alternators (cars), industrial alternators (natural gas-fired power plant, hydro-electric power station, nuclear plant and three-phase gasoline or diesel generating units), the domestic alternators (single phase generating unit). The alternators which are coupled with high speed turbines (gas or steam) are called turbo-alternators.
